The Williams Life Center, Inc. (WLC) is a non-profit corporation established in 1998 for the expressed purpose of serving youth and families in the Washington Metropolitan area. Since 1998, WLC has opened up homes in Prince George’s County, Maryland. WLC has its’ roots in the firm belief that children and families are given an opportunity to receive services and supports in the home and community-based settings, regardless of the complexity of their conditions, the level of their disabilities, or the challenges of their behaviors. WLC, a therapeutic residential and foster care program, serves culturally diverse youths (males and females) with learning and/or emotional disabilities. WLC is designed to provide young men and women with the opportunity to emulate positive and productive citizens, who work together to reach personal goals, and live productively in the larger community. The program is geared toward enhancing the spiritual, psychological, educational, physical and social functioning of all clients.
WLC is dedicated to:
- Providing a loving home environment to youth from dysfunctional homes.
- Providing each youth with the opportunity to re-direct their negative behavior, and replace this negativity with more positive responses, enabling them to return to society as model citizens.
- Provide activities which will foster educational, cultural, and community integration incentives to broaden their perspectives as they prepare to journey into adulthood, to include out-of-county, out-of-state and out-of-country travel.
- Provide therapeutic recreational activities which include: sewing; dancing; fashion design and modeling; reading groups; arts and crafts; jump roping; model airplanes and cars; kite flying; electronic games; swimming; bicycling; basketball; volleyball; golf; etc. These recreational activities serve not only to entertain; but, will also help enhance self-esteem, concentration, dexterity, physical fitness, team sports relationship building skills, life skills, community integration, and socialization skills.
In an effort to build upon the program’s mission and goals, WLC is requesting the help from some of our neighbors like you.
