Current Activities
WLC operates from a client-centered, reality-based, strength-based and culturally competent treatment perspective. The center provides various cultural, religious and social/community integration activities for the residents on a weekly basis. Exposure to religious and cultural diverse local and regional activities promotes a holistic approach to the rehabilitation process. Residents are encouraged to participate in religious services and cultural events of their choice. Some of the most popular activities continue to be Christian-based religious services, Rites of Passage conferences, music concerts/theater, museums, library, sight-seeing tours, Six Flags Amusement Park season passes, swimming, kayaking, bowling, roller-skating, ice skating, movies, dining out at diverse eateries, and attending sporting events; i.e. Washington Wizards and Mystics basketball games and the Washington Redskins football games. These activities give the clients an opportunity to work on developing appropriate social and community integration skills in the community while having recreational fun.
WLC promotes exposure to culturally diverse environments with extended trips and retreats to Bahamas, Canada, Florida, Grand Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia. These all-expense paid excursions lend to opportunities of exposure and enhancement of independent living and team building skills.
